MLSCN Warns New Graduates Against Repeating Internship

Medical Laboratory Scientists Warned Against Repeating Internship

  • The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) has cautioned new professionals not to repeat the mandatory internship program.
  • Repeating the internship is deemed illegal and could lead to disciplinary action.
  • The warning was issued at the induction of the 2024 Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) graduates from the University of Ibadan (UI).

The MLSCN Registrar, Prof. Tosan Erhabor, delivered this message through Dr. Akinwale Akinlabi, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, during the ceremony at UI’s College of Medicine.

Erhabor noted that some individuals who ignored past warnings about repeating the internship are now facing disciplinary hearings early in their careers. He urged the new professionals to uphold ethical standards and work collaboratively with other health sector players to improve healthcare outcomes in Nigeria.

Prof. Temidayo Ogundiran, Provost of the College of Medicine, reminded the graduates of the importance of integrity, compassion, and excellence in their work, regardless of the challenges they might face.

The Vice-Chancellor of UI, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, encouraged the inductees to be outstanding ambassadors of both the profession and the university. He emphasized the need for them to maintain strong character and academic excellence in all situations.

The MLSCN also praised the Federal Government for its initiatives and structures aimed at strengthening the health sector, reaffirming its support for such policies.
