Mojisola Meranda Biography: Age, Political Career, Controversy And More

Mojisola Meranda, now the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has made history as the first female to hold the position in the state.

Her emergence follows the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed for gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Representing Apapa Constituency I, Meranda’s journey in politics and public service is both remarkable and inspiring.

Early Life and Education

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that Mojisola Meranda was born in August 1980 in Lagos, Nigeria. She began her education at Randle Primary School, completing her primary education in 1992. Her secondary education took her to Anglican Girls Grammar School and later Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School, where she earned her West African Senior Certificate (WASC) in 1998.

Meranda furthered her education by obtaining a Certificate in Software Development (Network Engineering) from NIIT. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Lagos State University (LASU) in 2013.

Her academic pursuits continued with a Master’s in Public and International Affairs (MPIA) from the University of Lagos in 2020. Currently, she is pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Public Sector Management at the University of York, UK.

Professional and Political Career

Meranda began her career as a personal assistant to the senior special assistant on information technology and later served as a personal assistant to the Director of the Land Information System Support Unit (LISSU) under the Surveyor General’s office.

She expanded her professional expertise as the office manager at Cirrus Nigeria Limited in Lekki, Lagos, and as the managing director/CEO of Worthline International Services Limited, a company she founded.

 

Her entry into public service saw her working as the senior special assistant on Intervention and Inter-Governmental Relations in Apapa Local Government. She also served as the supervisor for Health in the same local government.

Meranda’s political journey began with the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), which transitioned into the Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and eventually the All Progressives Congress (APC). In 2015, she successfully contested and won the election to represent Apapa Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In the 8th Assembly, she chaired the House Committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) and later the Committee on Establishment, Training, Pension, and Public Service. During the 9th Assembly, she served as the chief whip. In the 10th Assembly, prior to her election as speaker, she held the position of deputy speaker.

Recent Appointment

Mojisola Meranda’s appointment as the speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly is a testament to her dedication and service. As the first woman to hold this role, her leadership marks a significant milestone in Lagos State’s political history.
