Mudir Markaz, Al-sheikh Habeebulah Adam El-Ilory, has announced 25th of April, 2020 as the first day of Ramadan. Mudir made this announcement through his Facebook page, warning that Islam is a religion that bases on knowledge and that no one should do otherwise without the proof from Qur’an and the book of words and deeds of Prophet Muhammad(Hadith)
He moved further to say that the teaching of Prophet Muhammad indicates that when the crescent is not sighted at 29th of Sha’aban, the Muslim Faithful should start fast after the completion of Sha’aban as 30. So, he emphasised that Thursday 23th of April was 29th of Sha’aban and the crescent was not sighted as expected, so the completion of the month of Sha’aban is Friday, 24th of April and the first of Ramadan will be Saturday, 25th of April, 2020.

Some people reacted to his message that he had gone against the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Saad III, who announced yesterday, Thursday 23rd of April that the new moon had been sighted and that fast begins today, Friday, 24th April, 2020, which is the 1st day of Ramadan for the Islamic 1441 After Hijrah.
While addressing the public, Sultan who is also the Chairman of Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, said the crescent moon was sighted in different parts of the country.
