Authorities are investigating a disturbing case in Akure, Ondo State, where a mother is alleged to have brutally beaten her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter for being unable to count from 1 to 20.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to reports, the incident occurred yesterday when the mother, a resident of Ondo State, used a wooden spatula—commonly used as an orogun (a stick for turning Amala or Gari)—to strike the child all over her body.
The assault reportedly left the little girl with visible welts on her face, neck, and arms, and blood stains were observed on her dress.
A neighbor, who witnessed the incident within his compound, shared photographs of the injured child on Facebook, urging immediate action by NGOs. In his post, the witness stated:
“This little girl of two and half years did not fall or get hit by a motorcycle, but she was brutally beaten by her mother with orogun (stick for turning Amala or Gari) for not been able to count 1 to 200. This happened in my compound this evening, I didn’t do or send it online because of this, but it has been happening repeatedly and I can’t take it no more. Good people of Nigeria, help me to rebroadcast this until it get to an NGOs, I want this woman to be dealt with for treating her daughter like this for cry out loud.”
He repeated his plea, adding:
