A viral video showing individuals destroying sachet water packs at factories and on public buses has sparked confusion, with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) distancing itself from the incident.
In a statement on its social media platforms, NAFDAC clarified that the actions depicted in the video were not part of its official enforcement activities. The agency stressed that the individuals in the video were not NAFDAC officials and that such actions did not follow its enforcement protocols.

NAFDAC further explained, “The videos circulating, showing individuals engaging in enforcement activities, are NOT NAFDAC officials or members of our Investigation & Enforcement team. Additionally, stopping vehicles to destroy products is unprofessional and does not align with NAFDAC’s Standard Operating Procedures.”
In a related development, the Lagos State Government has denied rumors of plans to ban the production and sale of sachet water in the state. Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, addressed the claims in a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.
Wahab assured the public that the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is focused on addressing plastic waste through sustainable and inclusive strategies, rather than imposing outright bans.
He also highlighted the government’s continued efforts to combat plastic pollution, citing an Engagement Workshop organized by the ministry on October 3, 2024.
