NAHCON Boss Under EFCC Scrutiny Over N90b Hajj Fund
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) questioned Malam Jalal Arabi, Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), regarding the alleged mismanagement of funds allocated for this year’s Hajj exercise.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Arabi was summoned to answer the question about the expenditure of the N90 billion subsidy designated for the pilgrimage.
Petitions had been filed against Arabi and NAHCON’s management, accusing them of misappropriating the funds, particularly during this year’s Hajj.
An EFCC source confirmed that Arabi was interrogated by EFCC detectives about the commission’s financial handling.
The investigation dates back to 2021, with previous probes into alleged fraud involving N200 million within the commission. Three NAHCON directors were also summoned to provide their insights on the matter.

The source indicated that Arabi may not be detained if he cooperates and makes himself available for further questioning.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the ongoing investigation but did not provide further details at the time of reporting.
Arabi, during a news briefing, had explained the allocation of the N90 billion subsidy, stating that each pilgrim received support amounting to N1,637,369.87, with additional benefits for those under the Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS).
He emphasized the challenge of distributing the funds equitably to avoid additional costs for registered pilgrims.
