Following a disappointing 10th-place finish last season despite starting as defending champions, Napoli have found their stride under new coach Antonio Conte, recording four wins in six matches this campaign.
EDITOR’S PICKS:
Politano opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, cutting in from the right before calmly finishing past the goalkeeper from a tight angle.
Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sealed the victory just 11 minutes later, capitalizing on a loose ball in the box and firing home with a powerful shot from close range.
Conte’s impact has been immediate, with Napoli now sitting at the top of the Serie A standings for the first time since June 2023, when they last lifted the Scudetto. They lead the table with 13 points from six games, one point ahead of Juventus and two clear of AC Milan, Inter Milan, and surprise contenders Torino.
In an earlier match, Torino missed the chance to reclaim the top spot after suffering their first league defeat of the season, losing 3-2 at home to Lazio.
Torino struggled from the start, as Lazio took an early lead in the eighth minute with a goal from former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, who fired in from just inside the penalty area. Guendouzi’s goal was set up by Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares, who provided his fourth assist of the season.
Lazio doubled their lead on the hour mark through Boulaye Dia, who finished with a sweeping strike. Torino coach Paolo Vanoli’s decision to bring on Che Adams paid off, as the Scottish international pulled one back seven minutes later, marking his third goal in as many games. However, Torino’s comeback fell short.
