EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to a source cited by SaharaReporters, the officers’ dispute intensified, culminating in LS Akila opening fire on his colleague, who has not yet been publicly named.
“Around 6 a.m., two naval personnel engaged in a heated argument, during which LS Akila shot his colleague at Team 3, in the Dansadau community,” the source revealed.
The situation has since been brought to the attention of military officials, who have taken LS Akila into custody.
Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the incident to news outlets, stating, “On 25 October, at approximately 0312 hours, LS Akila, deployed at FOB Dansadau for Operation Fansan Yamma, in questionable circumstances, opened fire, tragically resulting in the death of a fellow military colleague.”
Buba clarified that LS Akila was immediately arrested, disarmed, and detained, and that an investigation is now underway to examine the exact details and motivations behind the incident.
He added that the outcome of the investigation would determine any subsequent court martial proceedings to address disciplinary breaches within the military ranks.
The Defence Headquarters also assured the public that the family of the deceased officer has been notified as part of the standard administrative procedure.
While the name of the deceased is yet to be released publicly to respect the family’s privacy, Maj. Gen. Buba emphasized that the information would be made available in due course. He urged the media to exercise sensitivity in their coverage, noting, “We request that media outlets report with caution, so as not to further distress the grieving family.”
