NCoS Responds to Controversy Surrounding Bobrisky’s Jail Term
A senior management officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has addressed claims made by crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, regarding his jail term being served in a private apartment.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that controversial activist VeryDarkMan shared a video in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have bribed officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop the money laundering charges against him. In the footage, a voice believed to be Bobrisky’s also asserted that a “godfather,” along with Haliru Nababa, the controller general of the NCoS, ensured that he served his six-month sentence in a private apartment instead of in prison.

However, in an interview with Punch, a high-ranking NCoS officer clarified that what some may perceive as VIP treatment is actually a special facility that has been in place for years.
The officer explained that custodial centers are equipped with different facilities, and the conditions of prisoners—including health, age, sex, and category of the sentence—determine their placement.
The officer stated, “There are different facilities in the custodial centers across the country, and it is not unusual to accommodate prisoners based on their health conditions, sex, age, and sentence type. Importantly, the prison authority also considers human rights and the treatment of the prisoners.”

Regarding Bobrisky’s case, the officer noted, “The NCoS authority confirmed that he is a woman from the waist up, while he is a man from the waist down.
We have never had someone like this in our custody, and there is no facility designed for such a situation. He had to be placed in a separate cell to ensure his safety and prevent potential abuse. That facility is what he mistakenly referred to as a private apartment.”
The officer further emphasized that regardless of any VIP status, a prisoner’s condition will dictate the facility in which they are housed. “We cannot place a prisoner with high blood pressure in a cell without adequate ventilation,” he added.
