EKO HOT BLOG reports that Sources revealed that the NDC leader was taken into custody on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Port Harcourt and is currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

A source familiar with the situation told SaharaReporters that the police initially invited the NDC’s Spokesperson, Mudiaga Ogboru, over his strong criticism of the emergency rule and his call for Niger Delta residents to exercise their civil rights through protests. However, instead of waiting for Ogboru, the police went ahead to arrest the NDC president.

“Instead of waiting for him, the police went ahead to arrest the president. He has been in detention since yesterday,” the source said.

Confirming the development, Ogboru stated that he received separate invitations from both the Lagos and Rivers State Police Commands.

“Actually, I received two different invitations—one from Lagos Police Command and another from Rivers State Police Command. It is about our planned protest against the emergency rule in Rivers. Since they could not get me, they went ahead to arrest our president in Port Harcourt,” Ogboru told journalists.

A copy of the invitation letter made available to the press read:

“INVITATION TO THE POLICE STATION:

“You are invited to see the Officer in charge SID at the above-named Police Station/Post in connection with a case reported on the 23rd day of March 2025. It is just a fact-finding invitation, and your cooperation will be much appreciated. Upon arrival, please report to O/C SID of the SID OFFICE, Ikeja, Lagos. Looking forward to seeing you on or before 25th March 2025 at 11:00 AM.”

The arrest of the NDC president has sparked outrage among civil rights groups and activists, who see it as an attempt to suppress opposition voices against President Tinubu’s controversial emergency rule in Rivers State.

Critics argue that the emergency declaration is a political move designed to weaken democratic structures and stifle dissent in the oil-rich region.
