New Barcelona President Laporta Reveals His Plan For Lionel Messi

  • After months of delay due to Covid19, Barcelona were finally able to elect a new president,
  • And they went for someone with previous experience of running the club.
  • Majority of Barca Fans across the world react to the news in an exciting way

New Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been involved with the club for over 20 years, starting from 1998 when he led a revolt against then Barcelona president Josep Lluís Núñez, and fought unsuccessfully to remove him through a vote of no confidence.

As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG , Laporta did became Barcelona president in 2003 and what followed was an unprecedented level of success which culminated in the club winning 6 trophies in a single season, before he left in 2009.

While he left the club in it best possible state, the current situation of Barcelona is not in anyway better than when he was first elected.

Just as it was in 2003, Joan Laporta will be taking over a club filled with many on and off the pitch issues such as poor performances, massive financial debt, expiration of star players contracts and an aging squad.

Joan Laporta obviously need to raise funds to sort out the club current financial mess, but one issue he must sort out immediately is the contract of star player Lionel Messi.

The Argentinian international tried unsuccessfully to leave Barcelona during last summer transfer window, and rumours in the media suggests he will try to leave again.

Realising the importance of Lionel Messi, one of Joan Laporta’s manifesto was to keep the Barcelona legend at all costs.

After winning the election, Joan Laporta confirmed to the media that he will start the process of a new Lionel Messi contract immediately.

“I will be calling Lionel Messi. Will I convince Leo to stay? It will depend on him, I will do what I can, within the economic possibilities of the club, to make him stay at Barça”. Source, new Barcelona president Joan Laporta to RAC1 via Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
