On October 5, residents of Rivers State participated in local government elections to choose their grassroots representatives.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the election, which was marred by controversy over its legitimacy prior to the vote, saw the Action Peoples Party (APP) claim a sweeping victory, winning 22 out of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
However, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) suspended the declaration of results for Etche LGA due to ongoing collation.
Announcing the results in Port Harcourt, the RSIEC Chief Electoral Officer, Adolphus Enebeli, stated that the results for the 319 councillorship seats and the Etche chairmanship will be released once collation is complete.
