Nigeria Can’t Share Afghanistan Fate – Leornad
Leonard, an envoy of the US has assured Nigeria that she won’t share Afghanistan’s fate and tragic end.
EkohotBlog reports that the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Leonard, reiterated the assurance during a meeting with journalists in Abuja.
The ambassador expressed that Nigeria and Afghanistan’s situations lack similarity and connection.
Many Nigerians had sounded a strong warning to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), against a replicate of events in Afghanistan, where the Taliban, an extremist group took over the country.

Nigerians expressed fear in the situation in Afghanistan, Nigeria and Afghanistan have different societies, Afghanistan possesses a more complex history and has mostly been a country of interest to Western powers. What Afghanistan shares in common with Nigeria are the presence of extremists group. Nigerians feared the Taliban’s victory may serve as a morale booster for Boko Haram in Nigeria to take over the country.
Leonard registered that Nigeria has an established and strong bilateral relationship with the US, stressing that the situations are not the same.
She also dismissed the fear that Nigeria’s relationship with the US might end up like that of Afghanistan, she noted, “I hear people making the analogy with Afghanistan a lot, it does not match up.
