Nigeria Health Sector Doctors
The Federal Government has appealed to medical practitioners in Nigeria to remain committed to serving the nation rather than seeking opportunities abroad.
This plea was made during the induction of over 600 foreign-trained medical and dental graduates by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) in Abuja, aimed at bolstering the country’s healthcare workforce.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking at the event, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Pate, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ms. Kachollom Daju, urged the inductees to prioritize patriotism and contribute to revitalizing Nigeria’s health sector.
“I must say this, please don’t japa (emigrate). Let’s do this together, build a better image for the health sector, and build our nation,” he said.
Acknowledging the hurdles faced by the graduates during their education abroad, Pate commended their resilience and noted that their unique skills and experiences would enhance their medical practice. He also praised the MDCN and partner institutions for ensuring high standards of medical education and compliance with guidelines.
The minister emphasized the importance of ethical practice, urging the new doctors to demonstrate commitment, humility, and compassion in their service to patients.
He highlighted the trust society places in medical practitioners and the critical responsibility they bear in shaping the nation’s healthcare system.
“Nigeria’s health sector has faced persistent criticism over its quality of care. With over 600 new doctors entering the field, we hope they will contribute to transforming this space.

“Your work will directly impact lives, and the trust society places in you must be upheld with the utmost seriousness and professionalism,” Pate added.
The Federal Government’s call comes amid increasing emigration of healthcare workers seeking better opportunities abroad, posing a challenge to Nigeria’s already strained health system.
