The Federal Government has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the Nigerian Embassy in Iran has shut down, leaving citizens stranded amid the ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Saturday, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the reports as false and misleading. He clarified that while regular office activities at the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran have been temporarily suspended due to ongoing bombings, the mission remains operational and embassy staff are working remotely to ensure the safety of Nigerians.
“The Embassy in Tehran is fully functional. Staff members are working remotely to safeguard lives due to the security situation in Tehran,” the statement noted, assuring citizens that the government is actively involved in providing support and ensuring their welfare.
In a related development, the Ministry announced progress in diplomatic discussions with the Republic of Armenia to facilitate safe passage for stranded Nigerians. According to the statement, the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, through its Chargé d’Affaires, Abdulrasheed Omar Lawal, has formally engaged Armenia’s Acting Director for Middle East and Africa, Levon Petrosyan, on plans for evacuation.
The Ministry described Armenia’s cooperation as a “compassionate gesture,” highlighting the importance of international solidarity and humanitarian support in times of crisis.
“Nigeria deeply appreciates the willingness of Armenia to assist in ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens caught in the distressing situation,” it stated.

The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Armenia based on mutual respect and shared values.
