Senate Passes Bill To Formalize Nigerian Police Training Institution
The Nigerian Senate has passed a crucial bill that aims to provide a legal framework for the establishment and formalization of training institutions for the Nigerian Police Force.
The bill was approved after the Committee on Police Affairs presented its report during the plenary session on Wednesday. Senator Abdulhamid Ahmed (APC-Jigawa), who chairs the committee, emphasized that the bill would enhance the operational efficiency of police training centers across the country.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in his presentation, Ahmed highlighted that the approval of the bill would equip police personnel with the necessary skills to perform their duties more effectively and meet constitutional requirements.
He lamented the current state of several police training institutions, which lack legal backing and adequate funding. Many of these centers have been neglected over the years, resulting in poor conditions that hinder their ability to function at full capacity.
The senator explained that the bill is designed to transform these training institutions into modern centers of excellence, ensuring they become hubs for professional development and other essential functions.
Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP-Bauchi) also expressed support for the bill, underlining its importance in strengthening the operations of the police force and ensuring its long-term sustainability.
He stressed the need for competent personnel to manage the force, asserting that the bill would provide a necessary framework for effective police training.
The passage of the bill marks a significant step in improving the capabilities of the Nigerian Police Force, ensuring that officers are adequately trained to meet the growing challenges of law enforcement in the country.
