Mohammed stated, “The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) alerts the public about rising water levels in the River Niger system as of August 23, 2024.
This increase is partly due to reports from the Niger Basin Authority (NBA) in Niamey, Niger Republic.”
He further explained that upstream activities in Niger and Mali are causing floodwaters to gradually move into Nigeria through Kebbi State.
The operators of the Kainji and Jebba dams on the River Niger have been informed and are on standby. As of August 22, 2024, the dams are not releasing water.
