The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the death of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, Nigeria’s Consul General in Buea, Republic of Cameroon.
He passed away on Saturday, August 16, at the age of 59, following a brief illness.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the development was confirmed in a statement issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, who described the late diplomat as a committed envoy who diligently represented Nigeria abroad until his final days.
Ambassador Coker had a distinguished career in Nigeria’s foreign service, serving in several diplomatic missions across the globe. He was previously posted to Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, where he represented Nigeria in different capacities before being appointed Consul General in Cameroon.
The ministry expressed deep sadness over his passing, describing it as a huge loss to the nation’s diplomatic community. It further extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends while offering prayers for the repose of his soul.
Coker’s death has drawn tributes from colleagues in the foreign service, who remembered him as a dedicated diplomat and patriotic Nigerian. His contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s bilateral relations with other nations, particularly within Africa and Asia, were widely acknowledged.

He is survived by his family, who are mourning the sudden loss, as the Ministry continues to work closely with them to ensure proper arrangements.
