The ceremony took place at the government house in Awka, where Chukwuma Soludo, the state governor, administered the oath to Onyeali-Ikpe and other newly appointed council members.
Onyeali-Ikpe, who brings over 30 years of experience in the banking sector, currently serves as the managing director and CEO of Fidelity Bank. She holds degrees from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and the University of Liverpool in the UK.

Governor Soludo praised Onyeali-Ikpe’s appointment, citing her extensive corporate leadership credentials as key to the state’s efforts to enhance Nwafor Orizu College’s standing as a premier institution for teacher education and professional development.
In addition to Onyeali-Ikpe, four other individuals were sworn in as council members: Cele Aguruo, Fidelis Nweke, Uju Dibua, and Rex Kanu. Justina Anyadiegwu was appointed as provost, Edith Nwoye as acting registrar, and Anthony Aniebo as acting bursar. Chioma Azubike was named acting librarian, Nnamdi Onyili as director of works, Urewuchi Udolisa as staff representative, and Benny Egbunonu as PRO.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on September 12, 2024, included the official oaths of office and allegiance. Attendees included Ernest Ezeajughi, the chief of staff to the governor; Sylvia Ifemeje, the attorney general; Chinedu Nwoye, the chief of protocol/deputy chief of staff; and Tochukwu Nweke, the special adviser to the governor on legal matters.
Governor Soludo urged the newly appointed officials to bring innovative ideas that would drive sustainable change at the institution.
