North Korea: US Aid to Ukraine Is a Major Blunder

Published

on

North Korea has long accused of covertly supplying weapons to Russia, condemned the U.S.’s $8 billion military aid package to Ukraine on Sunday, calling it “an incredible mistake” and warning it was dangerously provocative against a nuclear-armed Russia.

The aid announcement came from U.S. President Joe Biden during a visit by Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to Washington, aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s defenses.

The package includes longer-range weaponry, enhancing Ukraine’s capacity to strike Russian targets from greater distances.

Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, accused the U.S. of escalating the Ukraine conflict and pushing Europe to the edge of a nuclear catastrophe.

“The United States and the West should not dismiss or underestimate Russia’s serious warning,” Kim stated in a message carried by North Korea’s state media, KCNA.

“Are the United States and the West really able to handle the consequences as they recklessly play with fire against Russia, which is a nuclear superpower?” she questioned.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly cautioned that any strike on Russian soil backed by a nuclear power would be treated as a coordinated assault, hinting at the potential use of nuclear weapons in retaliation.

Supporting Zelenskiy’s ongoing military efforts, Kim argued, is a reckless and dangerous decision, labeling the newly announced $8 billion in aid as “an incredible mistake and foolish act.”

Kim, a key figure in North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party, frequently issues public statements outlining Pyongyang’s stance on major geopolitical and security issues, typically thought to reflect the views of her brother, Kim Jong Un.

Over the past year, North Korea and Russia have significantly deepened their relations.

The leaders of both nations have met twice, solidifying a “comprehensive strategic partnership,” which includes mutual defense commitments.

Since September last year, the U.S. has claimed that North Korea has shipped at least 16,500 containers of weapons to Russia, with these arms reportedly being used in Russian missile strikes on Ukraine.

However, both Pyongyang and Moscow continue to deny any involvement in illegal arms transactions.
