The Northern Governors Forum mourn the death of Mallam Isma’ila Isa Funtua, describing his death as a painful demise.
Ekohotblog recalled that Mallam Isma’ila Isa Funtua died on Monday evening, July 20, 2020, at age 78.
The Chairman of the forum and governor of Plateau, Simon Lalong, in a condolence message by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Makut Macham, on Monday in Jos said Funtua’s death was a loss to the nation.

“This is a great loss to his family, the Northern Region, and the entire nation considering his immense contributions to national development.
“He is one person that has built bridges among people of different ethnic, religious and political persuasions and also encouraged unity, peace and tolerance,” he said.
The Chairman emphasized the roles that Funtua played as a journalist, urging youths to be inspired by Funtua’s humility and hard work.
Lalong, while sympathizing with President Muhammadu Buhari and the deceased family, said the elder statesman was a business acumen, humble and hard-working role model.
Lalong also prayed for God to give the nation and the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Mallam Ismaila Isa Funtua was born in Funtua, Funtua council area of present-day Katsina State in 1942.
He attended Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, the University of Manchester, and was a member of the 9th Senior Executive Course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies. He served as a Federal Minister of Water Resources in the Second Republic and was a member of the 1994 Constitutional Conference organized by the Sani Abacha military junta.
Mallam Funtua was a member of the affable Kaduna Mafia, a clique, influencing the northern elite with a professional and commercial background. He founded many businesses, including Democrat Newspaper and Funtua Textiles Limited.
