- The NRC says the train services aim to accommodate the increased travel demand during the festive season
- The updated schedule for the Lagos-Ibadan corridor on Monday includes trips from Lagos to Ibadan at 8:00 am
- The extended Abuja-Kaduna services will run on Tuesday
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the operation of additional special train services on its major standard gauge corridors – Lagos-Ibadan and Abuja-Kaduna – on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
Eko Hot Blog reports that this move comes in response to a significant surge in passenger turnout during earlier special services held in celebration of Eid el-Kabir, as stated by NRC Managing Director Dr. Kayode Opeifa in a recent press release.

According to Opeifa, the special train services aim to accommodate the increased travel demand during the festive season, allowing passengers to celebrate with their loved ones across the country.
”This follows the success of earlier special trips on Thursday, June 5, which witnessed full bookings and high commuter traffic.

”The extra trips would ease return travel for festive travellers heading back to their destinations,” he said.
The updated schedule for the Lagos-Ibadan corridor on Monday includes trips from Lagos to Ibadan at 8:00 am, 1:55 pm, and 4:00 pm, as well as trips from Ibadan to Lagos at 8:00 am, 11:03 am, and 4:46 pm.
The extended Abuja-Kaduna services will run on Tuesday, allowing passengers more options for their travels during the festive season.
”To manage the continued high demand on the Abuja-Kaduna corridors, NRC will extend its full six-trip daily schedule originally applicable from Friday to Monday to Tuesday, June 11,” he said.
Opeifa announced that the Abuja to Kaduna train services will run at 7:45 am, 2:00 pm, and 3:10 pm, while the Kaduna to Abuja services will take place at 7:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 5:00 pm.
This gesture, according to Opeifa, demonstrates the corporation’s commitment to addressing public needs and providing efficient, safe, and timely rail services during this festive period.
“We are pleased with the public response to our special services.
“These additional trips are part of our commitment to meeting the growing demand for rail mobility,” he said.
