Liverpool have confirmed the sale of Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in a deal worth £46.2 million. The transfer, announced on Saturday, ends the 26-year-old’s three-year spell at Anfield, during which he scored 40 goals in 143 appearances.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in 2022 for an initial £65 million but struggled to consistently meet expectations, eventually falling down the pecking order under former manager Jurgen Klopp and current boss Arne Slot. Reports indicate that Al-Hilal will pay an initial €53 million, with Nunez signing a three-year contract.
“Al-Hilal Club Company is pleased to announce the signing of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez from Liverpool FC on a three-year contract,” the Saudi club said in a statement.
The move comes after Liverpool’s heavy summer spending, with new signings including Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong. Nunez’s departure could pave the way for a renewed pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, after Liverpool’s initial £110 million bid was rejected. Newcastle are reportedly holding out for up to £150 million for the Swedish forward.
The sale takes Liverpool’s transfer income this summer close to €200 million, following the exits of Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Tyler Morton.
For Al-Hilal, Nunez becomes the latest high-profile signing as they continue to build a star-studded squad.

The club, coached by former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi, already boasts the likes of Ruben Neves, Joao Cancelo, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Aleksandar Mitrovic, and recently reached the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup after a surprise win over Manchester City.
