Nurses In Ogun Plead For More Employees
The Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives , Roseline Solarin, has called for the recruitment of more nurses by the state government .
Solarin , who decried a shortage of nurses in government hospitals in the state , lamented that the ones available were being overworked .
She spoke on the sidelines of a walk to open the Nurses and Midwives Year celebration in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Solarin said the state government had not employed health workers at the local government level in the past five years, Punch reports.
She said, “ We are supposed to have a nurse attending to four patients but what we have is even a case of a nurse to even 30 patients .”
According to the NANNM chief , the World Health Organisation has declared that by 2030 there must be 18 million health workers, with nine million nurses and midwives .
She advised that nursing schools must have good lecturers with equipment.
Solarin said, “ 2020 has been declared as the year of the nurses and midwives to appreciate nurses who have been doing the job. ”
