Following the wanton destruction of properties and attack on police formation in Lagos, motorists in the state have had to grapple with a crippling traffic congestion as officers of law enforcement agencies are visibly absent on thoroughfare.
The attack on police formations in the aftermath of the violence that characterised the EndSARS protest has left a huge gap in the security arrangements of the state as the fallout of the demonstration made the police hierarchy abandon residents to their fate.
But the overwhelming situation has been somewhat addressed by officials of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) as they assume the position of law enforcer in order to ease the pain of motorists and also instil a semblance of orderliness.
Many of them were seen taking up the role of traffic warden, decongesting crowded thoroughfare in order to ensure smooth vehicular activities.
Traffic officers and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) stayed indoors and most parts of the state faced harrowing gridlocks that led NURTW officials taking up traffic control on major roads.
The officials wearing vests marked NURTW Traffic Unit stayed on the road all day with some of them wielding sticks to beat erring motorists into line.
Most of the officials looked worn out towards the evening time.
