  • Tinubu’s intervention included a proposed settlement, but Obasa insists on legal action.

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the leadership crisis rocking the Lagos State House of Assembly, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa remains firm on pursuing his lawsuit against former Speaker Mojisola Meranda and some Assembly members.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Obasa’s counsel, Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), confirmed in an interview with The PUNCH that his client is not backing down, stating that they are now awaiting the court’s judgment.

“We are just waiting for the judgment. We don’t know when yet, but the court has assured us that it will be communicated in due course,” Fashanu said on Sunday.

His remarks follow reports that Tinubu’s mediation efforts included a condition for Obasa to withdraw the suit as part of the reconciliation process. However, the Speaker’s legal team insists the case will proceed.

On March 17, 2025, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro of the Lagos State High Court reserved judgment in the suit, which challenges the legality of the January 13, 2025, proceedings that initially led to Obasa’s removal. The judge heard several preliminary objections from defense counsels and stated that the judgment date would be announced later.

When asked whether Obasa was reconsidering his stance, Fashanu dismissed the idea.

“We have concluded arguments; that one does not arise again. He’s not withdrawing. We have concluded,” he stated firmly.

As the legal battle continues, the Lagos Assembly crisis remains unresolved despite high-level interventions.
