EKO HOT BLOG reports that the protest is intended to highlight the hardships caused by the removal of fuel subsidies and the devaluation of the naira.
The protest organizers had previously stated that law enforcement agencies would not deter them from going ahead with the demonstration.
However, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Adeniran Akinwale, expressed concerns that the protest could be hijacked by hoodlums. Speaking in Ado Ekiti, Akinwale urged the youth to seek peaceful solutions and avoid breaking the law.
“We urge residents to refrain from protesting to prevent the situation from being exploited by hoodlums. We will ensure peace and tranquillity in Ekiti State,” Akinwale said.
He added that the police would continue engaging with stakeholders and the youth to promote dialogue, emphasizing that citizens should not use illegal means to pursue justice during tough economic times.
