Despite being in the opposition, the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the endorsement was made public on Monday by the state PDP chairman, Hon. Abayomi Tella, during the official flag-off of the party’s campaign for the Remo Federal Constituency bye-election.

The event, held at the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland in Sagamu, also witnessed the inauguration of the campaign council for the PDP candidate, Hon. Bolarinwa Oluwole.

Tella stated that although President Tinubu is of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Ogun PDP has resolved to support him because he is a son of the Southwest.
“We have chosen to stand with our own. President Tinubu may be from another party, but he is from our region, and we believe in supporting one of our own. We will stand by him and give him our votes,” Tella declared to party members and traditional leaders present at the gathering.
He added that their support for the president in 2027 is rooted in regional solidarity, but stressed that fairness and transparency must guide the electoral process.
The party also addressed recent defections by key members, including Adekunle Akinlade, former deputy governorship candidate, who recently decamped to the APC. Tella dismissed their exits as inconsequential, insisting that those who left had little to no electoral value.
“They had nothing to offer; even in their own polling units, they failed to deliver. We are focused and unmoved by their departure,” he said.
Speaking at the event, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, said the party harbours no hostility toward President Tinubu, adding that their real issue lies with what he described as the poor performance of the APC-led administration in Ogun State under Governor Dapo Abiodun.
“I met with the President in January. I told him we have no problem with his leadership. Our problem is with the failure of governance in Ogun State,” Adebutu explained.
He urged party members and supporters to rally behind Hon. Bolarinwa Oluwole in the forthcoming bye-election, describing the vote as an opportunity to correct past mistakes and hold the ruling party accountable.
“We won 34 out of 35 wards in this constituency during the last election. The APC is gradually losing its grip. Let us seize this moment to send a strong message,” Adebutu said.
