Ogun: Wood Merchants’ Boat Capsizes, Two Rescued, Others Missing

A boat capsized in the Gbodo Jego River in Ijofin, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State on Thursday at around 7:00 p.m., resulting in two wood merchants being rescued and two others still missing.

EKO HOT BLOG learnt that the victims, Ahohe Seido and an individual known as Dogbon, were transporting firewood to Benin Republic for sale. The survivors, Awhanse Jimoh and Ahohe Jimoh, were also involved in the incident.

Ogun Police Command Spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, stating that the survivors reported the capsizing, which was caused by an unexpectedly strong current. This led to everyone on the boat falling into the water. Despite extensive search efforts by divers, the missing individuals have not yet been found.

Odutola provided details: “On September 12, 2024, at about 7:00 a.m., the Ipokia Division received a report from Awhanse Jimoh and Ahohe Jimoh, both from Ilepa Village in Ipokia.

She added, “The two survivors were rescued and brought to the riverbank, but the missing individuals have yet to be located. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and to verify the survivors’ accounts.”
