Omoyele Sowore Condemns Nigeria's Electoral Process
  • Omoyele Sowore reigns on INEC over its conduct of the 2023 general elections that has the All Progressives Congress’ candidate declared winner.

  • According to Sowore, the election does not reflect the will of the people.

  • The activist stands to reason that the election did not meet the legal requirements of a free and fair election.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has dismissed the results of the recently concluded 2023 presidential election, stating that it does not reflect the will of the people.

In his state of the nation address on Wednesday, Sowore claimed that the election did not meet any legal requirements for a free, fair, and credible election, and called it a fraudulent election.

According to Sowore, the political gladiators did not have any interest in organizing a transparent election, and he was not surprised by the outcome. He claimed that before the election, he had already stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was not ready for the election.

Sowore criticized the fact that the election results were not scanned and uploaded to the INEC server, as required by law. He also condemned the election as a “selection,” rather than a free and fair contest, saying that the political elite had chosen the candidate of their choice.

The AAC, along with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), called for the cancellation of the presidential election, citing irregularities and calling for the resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

“My fellow Nigerians, I’m happy you are as passionate as you are about your preferred candidates. That is the way politics should be. However, hatred and bitterness towards each other shouldn’t have a place between us.

“You might not see things the way I see it. That doesn’t mean I’m right and you are wrong. It just means that we are different. If your candidates had won, I would have prayed and worked for their successes and mine.

“I apologise to those offended by my support. I seriously condemn all the violence across Nigeria. I have mixed feelings for your genuine anger and not for my candidate’s winning. I, however, pray that Nigerians’ lives get better,” he said.

Sowore’s comments come amid controversy surrounding the 2023 presidential election, with opposition parties alleging that the election was rigged in favor of the ruling party. However, the ruling party has denied the allegations and defended the integrity of the election.
