EKO HOT BLOG reports that Nigeria took control midway through the first half after sustained pressure. Semi Ajayi gave the Super Eagles the lead in the 36th minute, rising above his marker to head home a well delivered cross from Alex Iwobi. The goal reflected Nigeria’s dominance in possession and territorial control before the interval.
Tanzania returned for the second half with increased intensity and briefly thought Nigeria had doubled their advantage when Victor Osimhen found the net. However, the goal was ruled out for offside, giving the East Africans renewed belief.
That belief paid off moments later as Tanzania drew level in the 50th minute. Charles M’Mombwa finished calmly after receiving a precise pass from Novatus Miroshi, catching the Nigerian defence off guard.
Parity lasted only two minutes. Ademola Lookman restored Nigeria’s lead with a composed finish, again created by Iwobi, whose creativity was central to the Super Eagles’ attacking play throughout the match.
Head coach Eric Chelle made tactical changes just before the hour mark, introducing Moses Simon and Fisayo Dele Bashiru to inject energy and control. Paul Onuachu later replaced Osimhen as Nigeria focused on game management in the closing stages.
Tanzania coach Miguel Angel Gamondi responded with several substitutions, including Denis Kibu, Kelvin John and Haji Mnoga, in search of an equaliser. Nigeria remained disciplined defensively, slowing the tempo and limiting clear chances.

The result places the Super Eagles top of Group C after the opening round and provides a strong foundation ahead of their next match against Tunisia.
