The Ondo State Government has announced that any individual convicted of kidnapping within the state will face the death penalty by hanging. This declaration was made by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo (SAN), during a press briefing on Saturday in Akure, following the State Executive Council meeting.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Ajulo revealed that a review of the state’s anti-kidnapping law will be presented to the Ondo State House of Assembly to enforce the death penalty as the ultimate punishment. He added that any buildings, properties, or facilities used in the commission of kidnapping crimes will be legally demolished after securing a court order.
He stressed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is committed to fighting insecurity in the state but will strictly adhere to the rule of law. “The governor is a firm believer in due process. We will not take unlawful shortcuts, but we are determined to send a strong message that Ondo is not a safe haven for criminals,” Ajulo said.
He also noted the government’s concern over the growing cases of cultism and affirmed that strategic measures would be implemented to address the menace.
Ajulo added that protecting lives and properties is central to the administration’s agenda, especially as investors continue to consider Ondo as a business destination. “We must assure them that both they and their investments are safe,” he said.

With this move, Ondo becomes the second state this year to declare death by hanging for convicted kidnappers. In April, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, made a similar announcement, affirming his readiness to sign death warrants and enforce property confiscation for kidnapping-related crimes.
