One Feared Dead, Vehicles Burnt As Fuel Tanker Explode In Abeokuta

An early Tuesday automobile accident has claimed one life while several vehicles went on flame after a fully loaded petroleum tanker crashed into other moving vehicles.

The accident occurred in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital at about 8:15 am along the Presidential Boulevard Road around Guarantee Trust Bank opposite Lawson Group School, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The fuel tanker said to be loaded with 33,000 litres may have lost control due to a suspected brake failure.

An eye witness said the tanker from Sagamu-Siun-Oke-Mosan Road climbed the overhead bridge but suddenly lost control while descending from the bridge.

“The tanker first crushed a motorcycle which was in motion before crashing into some commercial vehicles waiting for passengers at the end of the bridge.

“It was the crash that caused the fiery explosion, and we saw many vehicles on fire.”

Ekohotblog learnt that the fire spread to a few offices around the place caused panic as many motorists started making reverse to avoid being caught up in the raging fire.

‌The accident, many feared, will affect a nearby school if not managed promptly by men of the fire services.

As of the time of filing this report, some officials of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps were seen at the scene controlling the traffic.

Officials of the fire services were still being expected at the scene.
