Oshiomhole Explains Why He Knelt Before Oba of Benin
Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole has explained why he chose to kneel before the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II.
Oshiomhole emphasised his understanding and respect for the traditional institution of the Benin people as the reason for this gesture.
During an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Monday, Oshiomhole also criticized outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki, calling him a failure. He pointed out that Obaseki was unable to identify any primary or secondary schools built during his eight years in office.

“I’m thrilled that we won, and I had the privilege of serving as governor of Edo State for eight years, which has given me insight into the needs of the people. I know the state’s condition when I left and what it is today, and many believe I should be held accountable for Obaseki’s failures and poor performance,” Oshiomhole stated.
He added, “During the campaign, you could hear us versus Obaseki; he has not pointed to any modern primary or secondary school he built. Instead, Ighodalo promised to extend broadband to Edo North.
Earlier this year, Obaseki and Ighodalo claimed to have completed a feasibility study and received approval from FAAN for an airport in Edo North.
“They assured the Oba of Benin that the great people of Benin would have a seaport in Ghereghere and brought former Vice President Osinbajo to inaugurate an industrial park, yet none of these projects have materialized. Those areas are now overrun by lizards and snakes.

“Even the drainage I constructed to prevent flooding in Benin City has been compromised, and now, during the rainy season, the timing of this election is advantageous for us and detrimental to the PDP, as the rain keeps people indoors.
“They have nothing to showcase except that Asue chaired numerous boards and made money, but what the people of Edo really know him for is as a transactional partner.
“As a sitting Governor of Edo State, I respect the institution of the Oba of Benin and all royal fathers in Edo State. I always kneel before the Oba and will continue to do so, even though the current Oba asked me not to. A father is always a father.”
