Following a challenging spell in March, where he went goalless in four matches for Napoli after netting five goals in three games, including a hat-trick against Sassuolo in February, Osimhen returned to scoring form last weekend, with a towering header in Napoli’s thrilling 4-2 comeback victory against Monza.
With 54 minutes elapsed, Cameroon’s André-Frank Zambo Anguissa delivered a sublime, looping right-footed cross, pinpointing Osimhen’s position 12 yards out after maneuvering space between three defenders.
Osimhen leaped high to score the spectacular ‘Superman goal’ to help the champions stage a comeback.
The goal certainly left one of his potential predecessors at Stamford Bridge, Drogba in awe of his courage.
During an interview with FOX Sports, Drogba, whom the Nigerian striker idolizes, confessed that he wouldn’t have dared to try such a goal during his playing career.
“I saw Victor score that goal against Monza,” Drogba told FOX Sports.
“Oh God, he’s got hurt, I thought. I wouldn’t have gone for that ball, it was crazy, an absurd goal.”
Osimhen has a remarkable track record when it comes to extraordinary leaps.
In February 2023, the Nigerian soared 2.58m in the air to score against Spezia, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo and securing the second-highest leap recorded in Serie A, only behind Fikayo Tomori.
