In his address, Otunba Abass revealed that starting Ekohotblog was never part of his initial plans, as he had no prior intention of owning a media platform.

However, his passion for journalism motivated him to enroll in the NIJ postgraduate program, even after acquiring over 35 years of education and experience in other fields.
“I have always loved journalism, but it wasn’t until I joined NIJ at an advanced stage of my career that I considered creating a blog,” he explained.
“It all began during one of our lectures when the lecturer challenged us to set up blogs as part of a class project. That single task turned into what is now a globally recognized platform.”

Otunba Abass recounted the transformative impact of that project, noting how Ekohotblog has grown to become a household name, particularly in Epe, Lagos State, and beyond.
The platform has become a pioneer in digital news reporting, live streaming, and community storytelling, inspiring other media houses within the region.
“The journey has been incredible,” he said. “Ekohotblog has not only brought global attention to Epe but has also trained brilliant minds who have gone on to establish their media platforms.
It is humbling to see how one decision has positively impacted so many lives.”
The event, which was both a reunion and a thanksgiving celebration, highlighted the collective accomplishments of the 2018/2019 set.
“This gathering is an opportunity to thank God for His grace in our lives and to celebrate the achievements of every member of this set.
We have all come a long way and are proof of what hard work and determination can achieve,” Otunba Abass stated.
Several members of the postgraduate set lauded Otunba Abass for his visionary leadership and contributions to media development.
“Otunba Abass is a trailblazer. His journey and achievements inspire us to aim higher and push the boundaries in our respective fields, regardless of our age.” said a classmate during the celebration.
Another class mate added that,” We call him grandpa because he’s the oldest in our set and he never disrespected anyone despite that”
The reunion was a lively affair filled with networking, laughter, and a renewed commitment to excellence.
