The transition unfolded during the 33rd Annual General Meeting held on January 28, 2024, marking the conclusion of Captain Ayeni’s four-year tenure.
The outgoing president, Captain Gabriel Ade Ayeni, delivered a heartfelt address during the meeting, expressing gratitude for the support and dedication shared throughout his administration.
Captain Ayeni emphasized the remarkable improvement in the club’s membership drive as he advised the incoming president on the need to attract young and dynamic individuals. Concerned about the average age of members ranging between 67 to 70 years, he stressed the importance of succession planning.
“Worthy of note is the remarkable improvement in our membership drive; we expect it to keep improving by committing ourselves to bringing in young and dynamic individuals into our midst. This cannot be overemphasized, as the average age in our club today stands between 67 to 70 years; that’s not looking too good for our succession plans,” he said.
Additionally, he addressed the long-standing issue of service apathy within the club, urging a change of attitude and encouraging more members to actively participate in service initiatives.
As part of ensuring efficiency for the incoming administration, Captain Ayeni announced the completion of the renovation of a new administration office.
While unable to furnish it due to time constraints, he expressed hope that the new executive council, led by Bashorun Ayodeji Randle, would enhance the office with new furniture and additional facilities, including indoor games donated to the club.
In his concluding remarks, Captain Ayeni expressed gratitude for the honor to serve the club over the past four years.
