Over 50 killed, Many Injured As Explosion Rocks Iran
The blast occurred on Saturday night at 21:00 local time (17:30 GMT) in South Khorasan province’s Tabas mine, about 540 km (335 miles) southeast of Tehran. Authorities believe the explosion was triggered by methane gas in two sections of the mine.

Javad Ghenaatzadeh, the governor of South Khorasan, confirmed that 69 workers were inside the B and C blocks of the Madanjoo mine when the explosion happened. “There was an explosion, and unfortunately, 69 people were working in the B and C blocks,” he said.
The official death toll, initially reported as 30, was later revised to 51, with 20 injured, according to the state-run IRNA news agency. Earlier reports from Iran’s Red Crescent indicated that 24 workers remained missing, although the status of those still trapped inside the mine is unclear.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed his condolences to the victims’ families, stating that efforts to assist those affected would continue. “I spoke with ministers, and we will do our best to follow up,” Pezeshkian said during a televised address, adding that block C had 22 workers, while block B had 47.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities continuing to search for survivors.
