Oyo Govt Bans Heavy-Duty Trucks on New Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road

The Oyo State government has imposed a ban on heavy-duty trucks and articulated vehicles from using the newly inaugurated Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso road.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, explained that this decision was made to protect the road, which is crucial for improving agricultural transportation, trade, and inter-city travel.

He emphasised the need for immediate action from the Ministry of Public Works to prevent potential damage to the road, which is primarily designed for lighter vehicles such as cars and buses.

Commissioner for Public Works, Prof. Dawoud Sangodoyin, noted that this ban was prompted by the diversion of heavy-duty vehicles from the incomplete Ibadan-Oyo-Ogbomoso road.

“This road was primarily built to facilitate the state’s agricultural transport, trade, and intercity travel, all aimed at boosting Oyo State’s economy,” he said.

He added that the presence of heavy-duty trucks and trailers could compromise the road’s structural integrity, despite its durability, and undermine its intended purpose.

“Until further notice, only buses, cabstars, and cars are allowed to use this route,” the statement concluded.

The Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso road, which spans 76.67 kilometers, was officially inaugurated on May 30, 2024.
