Palmer Makes History With Four First-Half Goals As Chelsea Thrash Brighton

Published

Cole Palmer made history by becoming the first player to net four first-half goals in a Premier League match as Chelsea dismantled Brighton to climb to third in the standings.

In a thrilling encounter at Stamford Bridge, the 22-year-old forward was unstoppable, also hitting the post and having another goal disallowed before halftime. Chelsea’s dynamic attack capitalized on Brighton’s high defensive line, exploiting the Seagulls’ refusal to adjust.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

Brighton, however, struck twice early in the game, with both goals benefiting from errors by Chelsea’s former Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. But after Georginio Rutter headed the visitors in front, Palmer took command, delivering a brilliant individual performance.

Palmer had already hit the post and seen a goal chalked off for offside before finally opening the scoring with a strike set up by Nicolas Jackson, all within a frantic 138 seconds. He then added a second with a clinical penalty after Jadon Sancho was fouled in the box, before completing a 10-minute hat-trick with a stunning 25-yard free kick into the top corner.

Palmer’s fourth goal came soon after Brighton’s Carlos Baleba capitalized on a Sanchez error to momentarily restore hope for the visitors.

Palmer arrowed home his fourth from another Sancho assist, as Chelsea’s attacking prowess once again shone following their recent 6-0 demolition of Wolves.

Despite Brighton’s unyielding approach under young manager Fabian Hurzeler, the Seagulls were left exposed by their high line, leading to Hurzeler’s first taste of defeat.

The second half saw fewer fireworks, though Palmer missed an opportunity for a fifth when he fired wide.
