Members of the Church of the Brethren (EYN) in Moduganari, Maiduguri, Borno State, were left in shock on Sunday following the sudden death of their pastor, Reverend Alaku Vincent.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that tragedy struck when Reverend Vincent unexpectedly collapsed and passed away during a child dedication ceremony at the church. Despite efforts to revive him, Vincent was pronounced dead shortly after.

While the official cause of his death has yet to be confirmed, church members and colleagues have taken to social media to express their grief over the loss of their beloved pastor.

EDITOR’S PICKS

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Timothy Hammajam, District Church Secretary of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, paid tribute to Vincent, calling him “a visionary leader with focus.” He added, “The KBC DCM 2003 graduating class will forever miss your wisdom and prophetic words. May God comfort EYN and your family.”

Another church member, Prince Malikson Papaman, shared his sorrow on Facebook, describing the pastor’s passing as leaving an “unfillable void.” He found solace in the Bible’s assurance that death is but a sleep, recalling how Reverend Vincent had delivered his final sermon with passion just hours before.

He wrote, “Just a few hours ago, he stood confidently on the altar, shepherding his flock with conviction. His powerful message about family unity in worship still echoes in my mind. Little did I know it would be his final sermon.

“Rest in eternal peace, Rev. Alaku Vincent. Until we meet again.”
