Ghana football legend, Nii Odartey Lamptey has breathed a sigh of relief after an Appeal Court threw out an appeal against him, filed by his ex-wife Gloria Appiah, to dispossess him of his seven-bedroom East Legon mansion in Accra.
The court judgment comes as a huge relief for the Olympics Bronze medalist after the shocking discovery that his three children by his ex-wife, according to a DNA test conducted in 2013, were indeed fathered by another man.
Odartey Lamptey was a member of the 1992 Ghana Olympics football team who won the bronze medal in Barcelona, a novel achievement for any African football team.
As gathered, in 2020, Gloria Appiah lost a similar appeal filed by the ex-wife of the former Aston Villa striker to get the plush residence as part of her alimony.
“It’s been eight years of litigation, but I am grateful to God for always being there for me. Few people survive in this kind of situation, but I thank Him I am alive and kicking. I would also want to use this opportunity to thank each and everyone who supported me throughout this battle,” Lamptey told Accra-based Kasapa FM after the court proceedings.
In June 2017, an Accra High Court ordered Lamptey’s estranged wife to abdicate his seven bed-room mansion in East Legon.
However, he was directed to settle her with alimony of GHS 200,000.00, a car and his four-bedroom house in Dome, also in Accra.
She further appealed for a re-appraisal of the verdict in an attempt to get his mansion as part of her settlement, but that appeal was struck out by the court.
The drama surrounding Lamptey’s rift with his ex-wife climaxed in 2013 after reports emerged that DNA tests had unravelled a startling revelation that Lamptey’s children had been fathered by another man.
He had clandestinely taken samples from the three children to run a DNA test, which revealed that his three girls were products of his ex-wife’s infidelity, even though they had been a couple for the better part of two decades.

The deadlock ensued when Gloria asked Lamptey to send ‘their’ first daughter overseas to further her education at a whooping cost of £26,000 a year for three years.
According to reports, the couple were trying to finalize the details of their divorce when Gloria demanded 50 percent of Odartey Lamptey’s estate and other properties.
