PDP Faction Suspends Acting Chairman, Secretary In Fresh Power Struggle

The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened as a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, over accusations of disloyalty to the party.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that  this development follows an earlier suspension by a faction aligned with Damagum, which removed National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade and National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba for similar charges of disloyalty.

In a dramatic twist, Ologunagba, on Friday, issued a statement announcing the suspension of Damagum and Anyanwu. According to the statement, the NWC considered several complaints against the two officials, particularly regarding their handling of a letter to the Court of Appeal in a case involving 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NWC condemned their actions, labeling them as anti-party behavior and a violation of the PDP Constitution and their Oath of Office.

The committee, citing Sections 57, 58, and 59 of the PDP Constitution, suspended both Damagum and Anyanwu from their positions and referred the matter to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation.

The statement further noted that Damagum and Anyanwu are barred from all NWC meetings and activities until the disciplinary process is concluded.
