The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced plans to meet with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in January 2025 in an effort to resolve the ongoing crisis within the opposition party.
The announcement was made by PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, during an emergency meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that during the meeting, the BoT expressed disapproval of the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, for repeatedly delaying the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Since assuming the role of acting chairman following the court’s removal of Senator Iyorchia Ayu, Damagum has faced mounting criticism from party leaders, who have called for his resignation amid continued turmoil within the PDP.
At the 98th NEC meeting in April 2024, party leaders sanctioned the formation of a reconciliation and disciplinary committee, planned Ward and State Congresses, and tasked the North Central Caucus with consulting on the appointment of a permanent National Chairman. The 99th NEC meeting was scheduled for August 15, then postponed to October 24, 2024, rescheduled to November 28, 2024, and is now indefinitely delayed.
In response to these delays, the PDP Governors Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, has instructed the NWC to ensure that the NEC meeting is convened by February 2025 at the latest.
Wabara expressed concern over the delays, stating that they undermine the trust and confidence of PDP members. He said, “As custodians of the Peoples Democratic Party’s conscience and legacy, it is our responsibility to uphold the integrity of this institution. We recognize that challenges may arise, but adherence to timelines is non-negotiable. The NWC must honor its word and convene the NEC meeting as scheduled.”
Wabara emphasized that the strength of the PDP lies in its unity and commitment to democratic values, highlighting the importance of the NEC as a critical forum for decision-making and cooperation. He warned that further delays could deepen divisions within the party.
The former Senate President also criticized the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, stating that the rising cost of living and poorly executed economic reforms have pushed millions of Nigerians into deeper poverty. He urged the PDP to offer credible alternatives and advocate for fairness, equity, and prosperity for all Nigerians.
