- PDP Clinches One Councillorship Seat as APC Dominates Lagos Elections
- APC clinched 375 out of 376 councillorship seats
- APC swept all 57 chairmanship seats
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured a modest presence in Lagos State’s political landscape during the recently concluded local government elections, managing to win just one councillorship seat out of hundreds contested.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the election, which was organized by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), marks yet another round of dominance by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Held on July 12, the local government elections were conducted across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos.
According to the official results announced on Sunday by Justice Mobolanle Abidemi Okikiolu Ighile (retired), who chairs LASIEC, the APC swept all 57 chairmanship seats, reaffirming its longstanding control over the state’s grassroots political structure.
In addition to chairmanship victories, the APC also clinched 375 out of 376 councillorship seats.
The only exception came from the Yaba LCDA, where a Babatunde Dosunmu, a former member of the APC but now in PDP, defeated the ruling party’s candidate and won a councillorship position, preventing the APC from achieving a complete sweep.
Justice Okikiolu Ighile commended the peaceful conduct of the elections and praised the electorate for their participation.

However, observers have raised concerns about voter turnout and the inclusivity of the electoral process, as opposition parties, particularly the PDP, continued to struggle to make meaningful inroads in a state long considered a stronghold of the APC.
