The defamation claim stems from a viral video in which Tenebe accused Ighodalo of corruption and embezzling state funds. In the video, which was posted on December 10, 2024, Tenebe linked Ighodalo to alleged financial mismanagement, making comparisons with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
In response, Ighodalo’s lawyers, Banwo and Ighodalo, sent Tenebe a pre-action notice on December 11, demanding a public apology and retraction within seven days. However, Tenebe, through his lawyer, Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, rejected the demand, maintaining that the statements were not defamatory.
Agbomhere further stated that if the case proceeded to court, they would rely on the defense of justification based on the Edo State Vehicle Recovery Committee and Asset Verification Committee reports, which allegedly indicted Ighodalo.
