EKO HOT BLOG reports that he urged the public to disregard any messages originating from the compromised account, stressing that he is no longer in control of it. According to reports, the hackers have been attempting to defraud his contacts by soliciting money. In one instance, a screenshot revealed that the fraudsters requested ₦850,000 to be transferred to an account bearing the name Ifeanyi Emmanuel.
Shaibu appealed to friends, family, and associates to ignore all communications from his WhatsApp number ending with 119.
“Please be informed that my WhatsApp line is currently experiencing some technical compromise. Reinforcing the warning, Shaibu’s Special Adviser on Media, Ben Ogbemudia, also issued a statement cautioning the public.
“Please disregard any messages received from the immediate past Deputy Governor and DG-NIS, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu’s WhatsApp number as his account has been compromised. Any messages sent are not from him. We appreciate your understanding and caution,” the notice read.
