The Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Environmental Task Force has apprehended two women, identified as Jatto Ayomide and Adenekan Bukola, for illegally dumping waste along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the arrest, which occurred during a routine monitoring exercise, highlights the council’s renewed commitment to enforcing environmental laws and maintaining a cleaner, healthier environment for residents and commuters along the busy expressway.

According to the Task Force, indiscriminate dumping of refuse not only defaces the environment but also poses serious health and safety risks, particularly in a rapidly developing corridor like Ibeju-Lekki.
Officials stressed that the action taken against the offenders serves as a warning to others engaging in similar acts.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, reaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental violations.
“Our government is fully committed to keeping Ibeju-Lekki clean and safe. Illegal dumping of waste along highways and public spaces will not be condoned.
We urge all residents to embrace proper waste management practices and make use of approved dump sites and collection services,” he said.
The Task Force further disclosed that the arrested individuals will face prosecution in line with Lagos State Environmental Sanitation laws, serving as a deterrent to others.
Residents were also encouraged to report cases of indiscriminate dumping and other environmental abuses to the local government authorities for prompt action.
