- Today, Aso Rock Presidential Villa, is the official residence of the Nigerian President,
- it has been the official residence since 1991.
General Babangida, was the first Head of State to occupy the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. Before the completion of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Nigeria`s Head of State and Presidents, were living in State House, Marina, in Lagos State.
The Pre-independence, structure which served as the official residence for past presidents in the colonial and post colonial era, before the Presidential Villa was moved to Abuja.
President Nnamdi Azikiwe, was the first Nigeria`s President to live at the State House, in Marina, during the First Republic.
The State House Marina, was later handed to Lagos state government. The building was perfectly transformed by the Lagos State government, without compromising its structure or architectural beauty.
