- Aliko Dangote’s, one of the richest man in Africa, is building a refinery
- It is located in Ibeju Lekki area, Lagos state
- The refinery is seen as a solution to the country’s fuel crisis
Dangote refinery is a 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) integrated refinery and petrochemical project under construction in the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos, Nigeria and is much bigger than Victoria Island, occupying 2,635 hectares near the Lekki Lagoon, along the coast of Atlantic Ocean.
It is expected to be the Africa’s biggest oil refinery and the world’s biggest single-train facility, upon completion in 2020.
Aliko Dangote, a concrete magnate who is worth an estimated $15 billion, said the refinery and petrochemical plant has the potential to satisfy Nigeria’s daily requirement of 445,000 to 550,000 barrels of fuel, with spare capacity to export and it will also generate 9,500 direct and 25,000 indirect jobs.
If this refinery project is completed in 2020, Nigeria could even become an exporter of gasoline and create enough employment for the youth in the country. That would be a change welcomed by long-suffering Nigerians, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
